Rabie 8th in Hamburg WTS

Five of South Africa’s Elite athletes lined up for the WTS individual sprint events in Hamburg over the weekend. Rabie, showing consistent good form throughout the course of this season, claimed 8th position in the Elite women’s race.

In the Elite women’s race Marie Rabie was the 10th athlete out of the water, 8 seconds from Lucy Hall’s lead. Sanders followed in 56th position a further 45 seconds down on the lead.

Rabie exited the bike leg in the lead group of 7, together with Klamer, Hall, Routier and Zaferes. Sanders followed in the second chase group, 2min46sec from the lead group.

Rabie ran the 5km run leg at an average pace of 3min17sec/km to finish in a very respectable 8th position, 1minute behind Zaferes’ win. Sanders finished in 48th position 2min28sec behind Rabie.

In the Elite men’s race Henri Schoeman was the first athlete to exit the water in a time of 8min53sec. Murray followed in 28th position, 16 seconds from Schoeman’s lead, with Sullwald in 62nd position. Murray placed his wetsuit in the wrong box in transition which resulted in a 10 second penalty.

Murray lead the 25-man lead group (including Schoeman) into T2 from the bike leg. Unfortunately Sullwald did not complete the bike leg.

Murray took his penalty 50 meters from the finish line. A confused Murray, not knowing what the penalty was for and showing his upset’ was disqualified for unsportsman like behavior. Schoeman finished in 26th position, 1min16sec from Mola’s win.
