The Olympic Games are the ultimate dream of every athlete wanting to compete and win on the biggest stage of them all

Since its debut at Sydney 2000, the individual Olympic Triathlon has been the ultimate athletic test of speed combined with endurance, all wrapped up in the unique pressure pot of the Olympic Games. It is a race that could last nearly two hours, but in which the finest details can be the difference between a medal or disappointment, making it almost impossible to predict. Then there’s the raw speed and team element of Olympic Triathlon Mixed Relay, introduced at Tokyo 2020 for the first time. A super-sprint swim-bike-run x 4, two men, two women, goosebumps guaranteed.

Olympic History

Triathlon made its official Olympic debut at Sydney 2000, where Simon Whitfield (CAN) and Brigitte McMahon (SUI) stamped their names in the history books as the sport's first gold medalists. In Athenes four years later, it was Hamish Carter (NZL) and Kate Allen's (AUT) golden moment, before Emma Snowsill (AUS) and Jan Frodeno (GER) won the golds at Beijing 2008. At London 2012, it was Alistair Brownlee (GBR) who became Olympic champion in front of this home crowd along with Nicola Spirig (SUI), a feat he would repeat in Rio 2016 where Gwen Jorgensen (USA) was also crowned champion.
