Great Britain’s Lois Rosindale produced an inspired performance to defeat local favourite Rachel Klamer and win European U23 Women’s Championship title.
Rosindale and Klamer were neck and neck with two laps to go before Rosindale pulled away and Klamer couldn’t keep up.
New European Champion Klamer was going for the double on home soil and she made a spectacular start, exiting the water in the lead alongside Sara Vilic and Anastasia Abrosimova.
A large group, including Klamer and Rosindale, entered T2 together but a good transition allowed Klamer to exit first with Rosindale leaving T2 in 9th, ten seconds behind.
Rosindale used the first lap to power her way up through the field and by the end of the lap she was battling with Klamer for the lead.
The two jostled together at the front of the second lap before Rosindale’s push over the final 5km. A great run which was rewarded with the second International victory of her career.
It’s been a fantastic fortnight for Klamer, European Champion and now a silver medal in the U23 Championship.
Arina Shulgina (RUS) was another athlete to have a fantastic run, making up a lot of ground to secure the final podium place and a bronze medal.
