TNatura certainly impressed in 2014.
The crowning glory no doubt was the magnificent ETU TNatura Italy Sardegna - Cross Triathlon European Championship 2014

Locations for their races drew gasps of amazement when athletes, technical officials, spectators and sponsors arrived. The impact on the environment was limited and reports back from local authorities were for each race very positive. As athletes look for greater challenges it has been TNatura that has delivered in Europe. Such was the level of positive feedback from the European Championships in Orosei-Sardegna that this year ITU has decided to give TNatura the World Championships. We in Europe will be able to show the world our little secret and won’t they be envious !
What will we see in 2015?
Once again cross-tri athletes will have a variety of events to choose from. The ETU TNatura circuit starts in Italy in June.
The stages for the TNatura circuit are:
- Tarzo (ITA) 14th June
This will be a great warm-up event for the European Championships in July. Situated in the North-East in the Province of Treviso, 224m above sea-level. Located about 60km north of Venice and linked by good roads, it is an “easy to get to place”. Nearest airport would be Venice, which has numerous international flight options.
Next up is the big one for European Cross-Tri fans.
- Schluchsee (GER) 19th July.
This is a favourite event for athletes who like it off-road. 930m above sea-level will ensure you know you have had a tough race. Schluchsee is the highest reservoir in Germany and the largest lake in the Black Forest. At this race you can really have your cake and eat it !
Getting there is easy too.
By Car
A5 Karlsruhe - Basel: take the B31 exit Freiburg Mitte, direction Donaueschingen.
A81 Singen - Stuttgart: take the B31 exit Geisingen, direction Freiburg.
A81 Stuttgart - Singen: take the Autobahndreieck Bad Dürrheim direction A864 and the B27/33 towards B31 Freiburg.
By Train
The IC and ICE network of the Deutsche Bahn allows you to arrive in Freiburg. From there you have a rail connection every half-hour to Hinterzarten and Titisee and an hourly connection to Titisee-Neustadt, Loeffingen, Feldberg-Baerental, Feldberg-Falkau and Schluchsee.
By Plane
Basel (BSL) and Zurich (ZRH): approximately 1 hour.
Stuttgart (STR): approximately 1.5 hour.
Racing off-road moves next to Slovenia.
- Bohinj-Pokljuka (SLO) 13th September.
Easily accessible from either Klagenfurt or Ljubljana airports and with good road and rail connections, this gem of a location is a great place to race. The water is crystal clear, the mountains are spectacular, the air is fresh and clear and the village welcomes tourists at this quieter time of the year.
The season and the TNatura circuit finishes with the ITU World Championships in Orosei-Sardegna (ITA) on 27th September.
This year ETU will be publishing the TNatura Rankings for Elite and Age Group athletes. This will not be ETU ranking but will show who is performing best over the TNatura Series and will of course act as an incentive to sign up to these great races.
Please note:
The Schluchsee event is not only the ETU European Championships but also an event that counts for the overall series. For further information about the TNatura Series, please refer to the TNatura website.
Many thanks to TNatura for the great photos.
