* The government of Ecuador has given special permission to the Ecuador Triathlon Federation to hold the Elite races on Sunday, May 1st. We appreciate this gesture on behalf of all the athletes, and those involved. We hope to see you in Salinas this weekend. We extend a warm and sincere embrace to the friends and families of those affected by the terrible earthquake of two weeks ago. We hope that this event is a small beginning in the efforts of reconstruction and healing necessary in these times of pain and suffering.*
Salinas is a coastal modern- resort city in Ecuador, with wide beaches and attractively priced hotels. The host hotel, Hotel Suite Salinas, is only 3 blocks from transition, and priced at $30 - $40 is an example of how convenient this location is. The Standard Distance course is flat and fast, using the boulevard along the beach (Malecon), then going inside a Naval Base which provides us with security and quiet roads. See our YouTube video link for a virtual tour of the course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXi1vrg3qLo
There is local bus transportation from Guayaquil (GYE airport code) to Salinas for about $12, or you can opt to share a private van ride or taxi at varying rates. We expect water temperatures to be around 26 degrees, and air temperatures will vary from 24 to 32 degrees. Ecuador’s currency is the US Dollar. This is a very convenient feature of this gem of a city in South America.
