Zofingen ready to host once again the 2022 LD Duathlon World Championships

For the 14th time in 33 years, the duathlon world will meet at Powerman Zofingen on September 4, 2022, for the long-distance World Triathlon Championship. What started in 1989 is still the undisputed most important event in the international duathlon calendar, with a course considered the most demanding ever and all the duathlon long distance stars ready to perform at their best in the Swiss mountains.

This year, the Swiss town will host participants come from 30 nations, including most of the top specialist in this event and both defending World Champions,  Merle Brunnée (GER) and Seppe Odeyn (BEL). Other athletes to be considered amongst the favourites this Sunday will be Jens-Michael Gossauer (SUI), second in 2021; Matthieu Bourgeois (FRAU, last year’s third; or Daan de Groot (NED), the 2nd of the World Ranking at this moment.

Merle Brunnée will also face tough competition: the Swiss Melanie Maurer and Sarah Noemi Frieden have performed very well this year. Maurer took the gold medal at the World Middle Distance Championships in Viborg, Denmark, Frieden the bronze. Maurer has recovered from a long-term foot injury and wants to make up for what she missed in 2021, climbing to the top of the podium.

The endurance sport of duathlon is extremely challenging. The athletes competing in Zofingen will have ahead a 10km run, 150km bike and final 30km run before claiming the world title. Race starts this Sunday at 8am CEST, and you can watch the races LIVE on TriathlonLIVE.tv
