Wuustwezel - ETU's "New Kid on the block"

2017 – there’s a “New Kid on the Block”!

ETU is always pleased to see new races come onto the international racing calendar and in August this year, in the very heart of the summer months, there is a huge sporting festival taking place in Belgium, just up close to the Dutch border, not far from Antwerp.

The 2017 Wuustwezel ETU Sprint Triathlon European Cup opening its doors to athletes from not only Europe but all over the world. Collecting ETU points in the race to win the Rankings Series, we have seen over recent years that athletes are using various strategies to ensure they get the best chance to maximum points at the ETU events around Europe. In Wuustwezel, we will see a Sprint Distance event for the ETU points on the Sunday but if you want to make a weekend of it then the Saturday will see a variety of events for all.

Homestays are available. More information via the Event Website.

So, without further ado, let’s hear from the Wuustwezel Team:

“Wuustwezel is looking forward to the “Sportoase triathlonfestival” on the 12th and 13th of August. It’s going to be a week-end full of sport, top-class sport and party.

On Saturday, Wuustwezel is expecting over 1 500 sports enthusiasts who will take part in our kids’ run, kids’ triathlon, trio triathlon and sprint triathlon. This great day comes to an end with an amazing party until the early hours. This event is on behalf of various good causes.

Sunday, there will be a European Sprint Triathlon. The start of the elite women is planned around 12:30h and the elite men start their race at 14:30h. The race counts 4 laps of biking and 3 laps of running in the cosy centre of Wuustwezel. Both participants and the crowd can enjoy this great track with continuous activity. The two races are filmed by Sporza, the biggest television station in Belgium. So, around 17:00h the athletes can watch a 20 minute during coverage of the races on the big screen or any TV screen.

To enhance the interaction between athletes and villagers, and to make it more financially attractive for athletes, we are going to work with homestays. Each athlete can join a Wuustwezel-family to prepare themselves optimally. You can built a strong relationship which can led to a collective party on our after-party. Because, yes, also on Sunday there will be a fantastic party.

Everyone in Wuustwezel and the Belgian media are looking forward to welcome you, to see you battling and partying.'
