NATIONAL FEDERATIONS SERVICES
XXXVI World Triathlon Congress and related meetings in Sanxenxo
Development and NF Services NF meeting
There were 3 key areas of the World Triathlon National Federation Services & Development Meeting linked to the XXXVI World Triathlon Congress in Sanxenxo (ESP).
The meeting commenced with a deep dive into the Good Governance initiatives implemented this year, including Safeguarding in the World Triathlon community. The data and outcomes of the 2022 National Federation Survey Report were also reviewed, providing a clearer understanding of the National Federation’s current positions and standings.
An overview of the continental development budget allocations between 2013 and 2022, was next on the agenda. This is the first step of the Return On Investment (ROI) analysis, designed to clearly understand how just under 9 million USD in grants were spent and invested by the Continental Confederations.
To close the meeting, the Team World Triathlon status and its direct support for athletes leading into Paris 2024 was discussed. Attendees learnt of the importance of the event-driven development concept linked to World Triathlon Development Regional Cups and other essential recent and long standing projects.

ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT
Team World Triathlon in Tangier
Team World Triathlon met in Tangier, Morocco.
Triathlon World Cup events are vital in providing Team World Triathlon Team members with consistent competition to ensure they develop into world-class triathletes.
Sometimes, our wonderful sport can be brutal. World Triathlon and the entire Triathlon Family wish Hannah a speedy and full recovery, who suffered a bike accident after the race while training.
Mauritius nailed it
Mauritius became the epicentre of triathlon in Africa for a week hosting the African Sprint Championships, Junior African Cup, Para Cup, Zone Championships and various development and educational projects for technical officials, coaches and athletes in mid September.
2023 Blue Bay Africa Triathlon – World Triathlon Youth & Junior Development Camp
Africa Triathlon hosted its next post-event development camp linked to the 2023 Africa Triathlon Sprint Championships Blue Bay and 2023 Africa Triathlon Junior Cup Blue Bay in Mauritius.
Pam Fulton (ZIM) head coach
“I was delighted to be appointed as Head Coach by World Triathlon to host a Junior Development camp after the 2023 Africa Triathlon Sprint Championships Blue Bay. It was a privilege to meet Africa’s up-and-coming triathletes from the south of Africa. Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mauritius, Kenya and Mozambique were represented. Our training facilities were the incredible Côte d’Or National Sports Complex, which consisted of 2x50m swimming pools, an incredible gym and a running track, to mention just a few. Three exceptional national coaches supported me and designed and facilitated some challenging sessions. We trained hard, discussed various post-race topics, bonded well and had fun learning new life skills. They are a very special group of athletes. I wish you all well in your future triathlon careers. A big shout out to the Mauritian Triathlon Federation for all their help enabling the camp to happen.”
PARA TRIATHLON
2023 Rio Maior Europe Triathlon - World Triathlon Para Triathlon Camp
Portugal’s famous Olympic Training Center (accredited by World Triathlon) in Rio Maior welcomed Para triathletes from Europe to kick off the “Para Horizon 2032” programme as a long-term para-development initiative for the continent powered by the World Triathlon development annual grant.
With the support of experts from Great Britain, Ireland and World Triathlon, Europe Triathlon aimed to guide and build a structure within new flag countries and strengthen and secure the health of tier 2 and tier 3 countries. Athletes and coaches from Norway, Romania, Estonia, Lithuania, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia and Belgium benefited from the program.
TECHNICAL OFFICIALS
Veracruz World Triathlon Technical Officials & Event Organizers Level 2 Seminar
Felix Molina (MEX), TRI TO facilitator, led a Level 2 Seminar on his home soil to level up and increase the number of Level 2 Technical Officials supporting safe and fair continental events across the Americas.
Montenegro’s first footprint
The National Federation of Montenegro is one of the youngest members of World Triathlon. In September, the NF organised the 2023 Europe Triathlon Balkan Championships Bar. To fulfil the requirement of hosting an international sanctioned event, nine national technical officials from five countries attended the 2023 Bar World Triathlon Technical Officials Level 1 Seminar to ensure the event complied with World Triathlon Competition Rules, making a safe and fair event.
2023 Blue Bay World Triathlon Technical Officials Level 1 Seminar
Mauritius has an extensive history of hosting continental events in Africa and providing highly qualified experts for Continental events and Major Games. In September, a new generation of technical officials was trained alongside the Sprint African Championships and Junior Cup in Blue Bay.
Rick Fulton (ZIM), course facilitator: “The seminar was very important for Mauritius as they hold good events locally and also Internationally. Mauritius is a perfect triathlon venue as it has so much to offer with regard to swim, bike and run courses with a very good variety of quality and affordable accommodation at every venue. The climate means for all-year-round events as well. This seminar has bolstered their Technical capacity for the immediate future, and we certainly hope to see Mauritius continue hosting sanctioned events every year.”
