Triathletes set to charge in the Cross Triathlon World Championships in Denmark

Triathletes will battle this Tuesday, across various terrains, to contest for the 2018 Cross Triathlon World Championships title, part of the 2018 FYNSKE BANK Cross Triathlon World Championships Fyn.

The Cross Triathlon is staged in Svendborg, a town on the island of Fyn in south-central Denmark. The race will commence with a 1km swim in the harbour followed by a challenging 27km mountain bike ride meeting gravel, jumps, steep and technical sections and ending with a 10km run which takes in short climbs and descents in the forest.

In the elite men’s field 2017 Cross Triathlon World Champion Francisco Serrano, representing Mexico, aggressive across the technical race format and will be one to watch. Spain’s Ruben Ruzafa and New Zealand’s Sam Osborne are specialists across the format and will be on the charge. Danish triathlete Simon Jørn Hansen will be motivated to produce a robust performance on Danish soil.

In the elite women’s field Austria’s Carina Wasle will prove a threat to the field. Other strong contenders looking to add World Champion status to their resume will be Sweden’s Cecilia Jessen, South Africa’s Johandri Leicester and Yulia Surikova from Russia. Denmark’s Nicoline Rahbek Sørensen will be looking to make an impact in front of a home crowd.

Over 300 triathletes will also compete in the Cross Triathlon across under-23, age group, junior and para categories, in search of World Championship prestige and personal best performances.
