Arina Shulgina and Vladimir Turbayevskiy claimed a golden double for Russia at the ETU European Sprint Triathlon Cup in Tartu, Estonia.
Shulgina’s victory was her second European win of 2014 and set the tone for a dominant Russian performance. Irina Abysova picked up another medal for the Federation with third place in the Women’s race.
Germany’s Lisa Sieburger was sandwiched on the podium between the two Russians in second place, her second successive silver medal finish after her performance in Kiev towards the end of last month.
In the Men’s race, Turbayevskiy timed his sprint to perfection as he stormed home on the final lap to claim his first victory of the season. It was tough on young Australian athlete Luke Willian, who led for most of this race but eventually had to settle for silver.
Valentin Meshcheryakov (KAZ) claimed a European bronze medal for Kazakhstan to complete the men’s podium.
