Salford City Council has appointed Perfect Motion Sports Marketing to handle PR for the 2006 Salford Triathlon ITU World Cup event following a competitive tender process. Perfect Motion will handle all specialist and consumer PR, as well as assist with marketing for the event, which takes place on 30th July. The Salford Triathlon is part of the ITU World Cup series and offers a rare opportunity for novice and amateur triathletes to race on the same course as the worlds top triathletes. As in previous years, BBC Grandstand will televise the race. Building on the success of the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the Salford Triathlon includes an eight-lap bike course around Salford Quays. The run course crosses the Lowry footbridge, taking athletes to Manchester Uniteds Old Trafford football ground. Tourism Marketing Manager for Salford City Council, Lindsey Hebden commented: The Salford Triathlon ITU World Cup provides us with an excellent opportunity to showcase the city to global audiences. We were very impressed with Perfect Motions experience and enthusiasm. As we bid for the 2010 World Championships, the spotlight will be on Salford to stage another high impact race. Perfect Motion Director, Helen Gorman added: We are delighted to have been appointed to work on one of the highest profile triathlons in the world. Our communications strategy will be designed to stimulate increased race entries as well as spectators at the event and work closely with the ITU to generate international coverage. Cities such as Salford stand to gain substantial economic benefits from hosting major sporting events, and our approach will be to encourage over night stays as well as day visitors to the race.
