ITU will this weekend welcome a new format of winter triathlon to its 2014 calendar. After making the Pentathlon des neiges the world’s biggest winter outdoor event, the non-profit organization, together with ITU, will be introducing the Québec ITU Winter Triathlon on March 8 and 9.
The new Winter Triathlon includes snowshoeing, speed skating and skiing. Russia’s Pavel Andreev, who last month won his fourth World Championship title in the run, bike, ski discipline, will line up to try his hand at the new format.
The Québec ITU Winter Triathlon will organise three events over two days of racing. Elites and paratriathletes will be racing on Sunday, March 9, while age group athletes will take to the snow and ice on Saturday.
On Monday, March 10, ITU and National Federations will be hold a meeting in Quebec dedicated exclusively to the worldwide development of the new winter triathlon format.
