The Course
This is surely one of best triathlon courses in the world – but best leave the sightseeing until before or after the race!! Further detailed maps are available at www.usmevents.com.au.
The Swim (2 laps 1500m ocean swim)
The swim is located in the surf. Mooloolaba beach is traditionally flat but may encounter a shore break wave. Anticipated water temperature 22-23deg C. The course is 2 x 750m laps, beach start.
The Bike (8 x 5km laps - 40km)
8 laps out and back. Leaving transition you immediately negotiate a roundabout which becomes one of the two turning points for the 8 lap course, the other turn is just before the cross street of Maroubra on Alexandra Parade, a U Turn. 700m from transition ride over Alex Hill, the only hill on the course, after descending it is flat and fast with a good hot mix surface to the turnaround. The course follows the same route back over Alex Hill, back through transition and onto the next lap.
The Run (4 laps 10k)
4 laps out and back, the same course as they cycle but the turn around point on Alexandra Parade is the cross street of Mayfield Road. Again approx 700m you have Alex Hill to run up, once you hit the summit it is a downhill run onto the flats to the turn around point. Follow the same route back to the top of Alex hill and straight down the Esplanade to the transition area or finish.
