The International Triathlon Union is proud to announce that the ITU World Cup racing returns to the Spanish capital for the 2020 Madrid World Cup, to be held on September 26. Once again, the event would be held in Casa de Campo and would feature a new eliminator format that will indeed provide some fast and furious action for elite triathletes around the world.
Madrid has a long tradition of hosting ITU events, with the Casa de Campo having witnessed many WTS events, as well as World Cups in the last few years, but it will now offer a different opportunity to triathletes to enjoy the eliminator format, with a challenging course around the famous park in the west area of Madrid.
In the last edition of the Madrid World Cup, in May 2019, it was France’s Emilie Morier who beat her own teammate, Sandra Dodet, to claim her first ever World Cup victory, with Italian Angelica Olmo accompanying them in the podium. In the Men’s race, a fierce battle ended up with two Germans deciding the victory by an inch, with Justus Nieschlag passing his teammate Lasse Luhrs, right over the finish line, and with Spaniard Roberto Sanchez Mantecon grabbing the third place.
