Melbourne, Australia: Annabel Luxford of Australia and Tim Don of Great Britian
continued to dominate the Triathlon world with wins at the Commonwealth Games
Triathlon test event in Melbourne, Australia.
Luxford lead the women’s event from start to finish 45 seconds ahead of her closest
rival Julie Dibens of Great Britain.
Andrea Hewitt of New Zealand, who recently claimed the Under 23 World Championships,
finished an impressive 3rd.
The New Zealand women also made their best showing ever in international competition
place 4 women in the top 6 places.
On the men’s side, an impressive put the Commonwealth Games Triathlon course to
the test in preparation for next March’s Commonwealth Games in Melbourne where
Triathlon is a programme sport.
Tim Don, who has 3 World Cup victories to his credits this season led out of the
water and never settled for anything but he win.
Greg Bennett of Australia, who was Australia’s top man at the Athens’ Olympic
Games in 2004 claimed a spot on the Australian team for the Commonwealth Games
by placing second, 10 seconds behind Don.
Bevan Docherty of New Zealand claimed his first podium finish of the year after
his spectacular silver medal finish in Athens.
