From 29 August to 1 September 2019, the Olympic capital Lausanne, Switzerland, will host the Grand Final of the World Triathlon Series and World Championships.
More than 4,000 elite and age-group “World Triathletes”, from across the globe, have qualified to race in the 2019 ITU World Championships. The competitive fields of age-group triathletes will liven up the shores of Lake Geneva to race for national pride and personal bests.
The host nation of Switzerland will have a team of over 300 age-group triathletes set to battle for World Championship titles in the beautiful city of Lausanne. The largest participating teams include USA and Great Britain, who will descend on Switzerland with over 600 age-group triathletes in their respective teams and Canada and Mexico are expected to have close to 300 age-group athletes, per team, lining up to represent and race for Championship honour.
The event will open on Friday, 30 August, showcasing the new generation of world triathletes, with the junior and U23 events. On Saturday, 31 August, the elite men and women will race for glory in the 2019 World Triathlon Grand Final and battle for Series titles, rankings and valuable Olympic qualification points. Saturday will also host the ITU Sprint Distance World Championship events for the age-group world triathletes. On Sunday, 1 September the schedule will feature the ITU Standard Distance World Championships on Sunday, 1 September and the incredibly World Paratriathlon Series Grand Final in the afternoon. The U23 | Junior Mixed Relay, a spectacular race format that will make its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, will close the weekend of triathlon in Lausanne.
