The Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) and the organizing committee of the 2019 Tokyo World Triathlon Olympic Qualification Event, in cooperation with the International Triathlon Union (ITU), facilitated a number of different opportunities for the athletes, coaches and spectators to experience the “i-PLAY TRUE Relay” for Tokyo2020.
Before and after their mandatory athlete briefings a few days prior to their competitions, the elite and paratriathletes, along with their coaches and support staff, were invited to share what the value of sport means to them by writing a message on “TRUTH” in Sport on map of the world.
Marisol Casado, President of ITU descried “Perseverance & Respect”, while Flora Duffy won the Gold at this race wrote “Fun is fast” as her “TRUTH” message.
In addition, the athletes were able to record themselves writing a message on special video camera screen and were given a QR code to download their recorded message which the athletes were encouraged to post on social media. All athletes were given literature on the power of fair and clean sport that was produced by JADA.
On all four race days at the Odaiba Tokyo Bay venue, the spectators were shown a number of JADA Play True 2020 videos. The message was a simple one in that one has to be true to the sport and be true to oneself to be a clean sport champion.
ITU will continue to commit protecting fair, clean and true sport, and believe it is essential to preserve the right of athletes to fulfill their dreams and to take part in fair competition.
This Play True 2020 educational campaign is about bringing all the athletes in the world under the same spirit of keeping sport clean and fair for all.
