USA Triathlon was honored Tuesday by a visit from Marisol Casado, President of the International Triathlon Union, who took time out of a busy trip to the United States to sit down with the entire USA Triathlon staff for nearly one hour.
Casado’s trip marked the first time that the ITU’s President visited the USA Triathlon offices in the 22-year history of the organization. “For me, it is a great honor to be here with you,” Casado said.
Casado is in Colorado Springs to visit with USA Triathlon and United States Olympic Committee leadership, including USA Triathlon CEO Rob Urbach and USOC CEO Scott Blackmun. Dragomir Cioroslan, the USOC’s Director of International Strategies, and Melissa Merson, member of the ITU’s Executive Board, accompanied Casado on her visit to USA Triathlon.
Following a tour of the office, Casado talked with the USA Triathlon staff about how her career in the sport began in a similar place. She served on the staff of the Spanish Triathlon Federation for nearly 20 years before being named president of ITU in 2008 and one of just 15 international sports federation presidents on the International Olympic Committee in 2010.
Casado shared her thoughts on how USA Triathlon can collaborate with ITU and other National Federations to help the sport continue to grow on a number of fronts and then took questions from the staff on a number of topics related to the future of the sport.
