Fines For Anti-doping Rule Violations

The ITU Anti-doping team would like some feedback on a new trend that has been appearing in the world of sport recently. Fines for Anti-doping Rule Violations (ADRV) have made it in the news recently as the International Weightlifting Federation has fined two of its National Federations for its athletes having a number of ADRVs in 2009 and the Italian Olympic Committee has said that all of its 109 athletes heading to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games will have to sign a statement agreeing to pay 100,000 euros if they test positive.

The ITU Anti-doping Rules allow for fines to be levied on National Federations as per 12.2. ITU may elect to take additional disciplinary action against National Federations with respect to recognition, the eligibility of its officials and athletes to participate in International Events and fines.
