British Triathlon/ITU coaching clinic in Bloemfontein

TSA is very excited to announce that the BTF International Triathlon Development Programme is bringing an ITU development coaching course to Maselspoort (Bloemfontein) this coming weekend. This entire initiative is funded by the International Triathlon Union (ITU)/British Triathlon.

The course will be delivered by the British Triathlon Federation for African National Federations in conjunction with the 2016 Bloemfontein ATU Triathlon Junior African Championships. There are 11 coaches representing Mauritius, South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. South African coaches that will be attending the course are:

Riana Robertson
Vukile Makeleni
Thomas Taole
Steve Attwell
Zakew Mkhize

The British coaching team includes Paul Moss (National Coaching Manager), Shaun Green, Scott Murray and Emma Brunning. Paul Moss, Coaching Development Manager at British Triathlon, works with the ITU in directing the development and implementation of the coach education programme. The system was formally launched at the 2014 ITU World Championships Grand Final in Edmonton, Canada.

Moss: “Our involvement in this project provides a great opportunity to work in partnership with ITU by helping them to create a fit-for-purpose coaching pathway and programmes, as well as supporting the development of triathlon coaches around the world.”

This course will be very interactive and practical, with group work and preparing sessions to coach. It will cover technical modules on swimming, cycling, running, transitions, Training Science (including physiology), Planning and Periodization, Safety and Risk management, Coaching Styles and Coaching Philosophy, Nutrition, Clean Sport (anti-doping) and finally running Training Camps.

Coaches will also receive some feedback on their coaching and get access to a long-term British Triathlon mentor.
