2013 Photo Competition: Week two in San Diego

The second stop on the 2013 World Triathlon Series schedule, the blue skies and sandy shores of San Diego always provides a striking setting to photograph triathlon. In its second year on the WTS calendar, San Diego was where Gwen Jorgensen moved from one to watch to one to beat. Although Jorgensen started the run a minute behind Australia‘s Emma Moffatt and the USA‘s Sarah Groff at the birthplace of triathlon, she reeled them both in thanks to an incredible 33:10 run split, becoming the first American woman to wain a WTS title.

It had been a long break for Great Britain’s Alistair Brownlee after his London 2012 Olympic triumph and the two-time World Champion admitted to feeling the nerves ahead of his date with triathlon’s birthplace, particularly with a limited six weeks run training under his belt. However the most successful man in WTS history needn’t have worried. Brownlee found his extra gear on the first lap of the run and stormed home to claim the win by 22 seconds from South Africa’s Richard Murray.

Jorgensen and Brownlee won the races, but which photo takes the cake? Vote now.
