Biography

South Africa’s Wian Sullwald first took up triathlon when he was 13 years old because he was looking for a challenging sport. His father was an athlete and both parents are cyclists, having a big influence on his sporting career.

Wian’s triathlon goal is to represent South Africa at the Olympic Games and the biggest obstacle that he has had to overcome is - in his own words - the transition from ‘an average athlete to a winning one’.

A bronze medal at the 2017 Cape Town World Cup firmly stamped his name on the Elite scene and after a difficult 2018, Wian bounced back with silver in Nur-Sultan and bronze in Tiszaujvaros in 2019.
